Phlogopite is widely used in building materials industry, fire fighting industry, fire extinguishing agent, welding rod, plastic, electrical insulation, papermaking, asphalt paper, rubber, pearlescent pigment and other chemical industries. Superfine phlogopite powder can be used as a functional filler for plastics, coatings, paints, rubber, etc., which can improve its mechanical strength, toughness, adhesion, anti-aging and corrosion resistance.
Phlogopite is divided into dark phlogopite ( brown or green in various shades ) and light phlogopite ( pale yellow in various shades ) . Light-colored phlogopite is transparent and has glass luster; dark-colored phlogopite is translucent. Glass luster to semi-metal luster, the cleavage surface is pearl luster. The sheet is elastic. Hardness 2─3 ，The proportion is 2.70–2.85 ，Not conductive. Colorless or brownish yellow under microscope transmission light. The main performance of phlogopite is slightly inferior to muscovite, but it has high heat resistance and is a good heat-resistant insulating material.
